About this calendar

A clearer way to see holidays.

Official and widely observed dates, clearly labeled by status.

Holiday pages separate official public dates from observances so that a cultural date is not mistaken for a statutory day off.

Choose the correct country and year, then open a month for legal-status labels. Employment rules can vary by province, state, employer, and sector.

Read our data and calculation methods for coverage and accuracy limits. If a date or result looks wrong, report a calendar error.

2023 has 9 nationwide long weekends in Canada, plus 2 provincial ones. 0 more become 4-day weekends if you take one vacation day.

What happens when a holiday falls on a weekend in Canada?

Under the Canada Labour Code, when New Year’s Day, Canada Day, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Remembrance Day, Christmas Day or Boxing Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, employees get the working day immediately before or after. This page uses the following Monday, the most common practice; check with your employer.

Are provincial long weekends included?

Yes. Family Day (third Monday in February), the August Civic Holiday and Quebec’s Fête nationale are listed with the provinces where they apply. Remembrance Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation are federal holidays but are not statutory in every province.

Can I make a long weekend longer?

In 2023 no nationwide holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, so there are no one-day bridge opportunities.
